Neal conducted a brief business meeting while waiting for the food.

Preston talked about an invitation to attend a Chapter Memorial Ceremony honoring East Texas War of 1812 Veterans.  One of the veterans was a Gann so Tom and Woody planned to attend.

After the business meeting, Dickie Dixon gave a talk while the members and guests were eating.  The talk was about a British Officer in New York that was taken in by a prominent family.

Dickie Dixon, Speaker.

An American born British Officer had been captured in Virginia but escaped and went to New York.   New York was in Britiah hands at the time(1780) and Jacob Schieffelin was made a Lieutenant in the Queens Rangers.  He was assigned to the quarters of John Lawrence, a prominent family of British extraction.  Jacob had no sooner moved in than he fell head over heels in love with the Lawrence's daughter, Hannah.    They were married and Jacob Schieffelin joined with Hannah's brothers, Effingham and John B. Lawrence to form Schieffelin & Company, an import-export firm that would concentrate on herbs and spices and pharmaceuticals from the West Indies.  It is now the 'Oldest Drug House in America " and still in business 200 years later.  Dickie even went to New York to find out more about this story.

Chris Axelson was present and he was presented with his membership certificate.
