Lawrence Ashburn read a poem about the flag. Lawrence is the father of Doug Ashburn of Lufkin.

Flags were posted at the beginning of the ceremony and then retrieved after the playing of taps which was done as the first flags were burned. Fred Preston is second in line and Neal Naranjo is third.

Flags were carried over the flames one at a time and dropped into the fire.

The fire made things unconfortable considering the air temperature was in the 90's even at 10:30 AM.
